GENDER VIOLENCE: CAUSES AND POLICIES FOR ACTION IN LATIN AMERICA (2020-2024)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Gender-based violence in Latin America is a latent problem that significantly impacts women's lives and reflects gender inequality and entrenched cultural patterns. In this context, the study reviews publications on gender violence in Latin America by analyzing the causes and policies implemented. For this purpose, the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) methodology was applied to review information sources, including Redalyc, SciELO, Dialnet, and ScienceDirect. Sixteen original studies published between 2020 and 2024 were selected from a total of 70 articles identified. The findings revealed that the main causes of this problem are gender inequality, the normalization of violence, the machismo culture, and the lack of education in human rights, which perpetuate violence against women. Likewise, laws and programs implemented in the different countries of the region were identified, with Mexico and Chile presenting more than one proposal to prevent and eliminate gender violence, highlighting joint efforts from both the public and private sectors.
