ART AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS IN EDUCATION: SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF CONTEMPORARY PEDAGOGICAL TRENDS AND INNOVATIONS

Abstract
Recently, after an environmental crisis, the world realized the need to change traditional approaches to environmental education. A systematic review of the literature was conducted, taking the concept of convergence between education and art as a starting point to analyze the most relevant pedagogical methodologies for raising environmental awareness. The PRISMA protocol was followed with 218 studies identified, reduced to 48 and then to 26 during 2019-2024, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria defined in the methodology and drawn from the Scopus, Web of Science, and Redalyc databases. As a result, there was a predominance of interventions involving visual arts using recycled materials, digital art, and interdisciplinary experiences. However, few longitudinal studies were observed, eco-anxiety was treated superficially, and there was a lack of standardized evaluation frameworks. The impact of this review lies in opening new and encouraging paths to transform the way commitment to environmental preservation is understood. The research demonstrated that art strengthens people's bond with their natural environment.
